  • BazHBFC The Club's AGM will be held at 7:30 on Thursday 24th May in the clubhouse. Not sure if that allows enough time for any questions that can be added to the agenda from the supporters, maybe someone from the club can let us know on here.

  • Roquefort Having seen the pictures of Manchester City's open top bus parade (sorry Baz) and the Chels planning to display the Champions League Trophy along the Fulham Road on Sunday (BG...we will do it) have the committee thought of something similar? How about an open top bus in the carnival, or even a flatbed lorry (anything other than a tractor). It would let the community know that the town has something more than a park side. Get the youth and harriers involved too. I am sure there would be plenty of supporters who would volunteer to decorate the bus and hand out leaflets.

BG7 Just a thought to throw into the mix - the Herne Bay Festival runs from 18th - 26th August and providing the weather holds up is always well supported by the public. Perhaps we could have a stand displaying the Trophies won by the club this season, provide a leaflet with a short history of the club (over to you Doug - short I said) and would only really need two people to man it. I would be more than happy to be included on any rota, the only problem being two Saturdays within the period of the Festival when we will all be following The Bay on our new journey. There must be a way that we could cover two Saturday afternoons as this would be a golden opportunity to promote the club. Roquefort, getting a bit nervous as Saturday draws nearer , but share your confidence as all true Chelsea boys do. Just hope that it does not go to penalties bearing in mind the Nation we are playing against.

Roquefort I am getting a bit confused on the dates here. I thought the carnival was on Saturday 11 August. If that is the same day as the Challenge Shield maybe the Kent League and VCD would look favourably at an earlier kick-off.

BazHBFC The Carnival normally starts at 6pm why worry about it.

  • BazHBFC Who thought it was a great idea to add an 'Access to the committee area' link on the front page of the clubs website? It reads the following;
'The above link is for committee members to get access to restricted information'

This isn't Big Brother you know. No wonder the fans think its us against them at times!

BazHBFC Playing it at the same time as the last Sunday in the Premiership is to ridiculous for words! Someone should be sacked.
    May 13
BazHBFC Someone posted on another forum about playing the Trophy and Vase finals on the same day at Wembley. The Vase ko at 2pm and the trophy at 6pm? Works for me and has to make financial sense for the powers that be!

DougHBFC I suppose their argument would be about the logistics of; a) clearing the supporters of Team A v's Team B b) doing a rubbish clean and security sweep. c) admitting the supporters of Team C v's Team D , all within that sort of timescale. Don't get me wrong - I couldn't agree more that a rethink is called for - but I reckon something along the lines of 1pm and 7:45 pm would possibly be more achievable, with the supporters for the second match able to get entry from 6:00pm. ( Would'nt want to be on Wembley tube station on that day though!!!!! ).

  • baymart I notice that HBY players are going to be charged £2.00 entry fee to games next season, ending a concession that has been running many years.

    Is this a good move?
    May 13 · 6
BazHBFC You will be amazed how many will complain about it though!
    May 15
baymart I've not heard anyone complaining, I just asked if it was a good idea.

I think that the club's success last season was built upon several years of sustained effort, and hopefully not just a one off year. During this time HBY players were admitted to the ground free as were the club's coaches and parents of children U12 were allowed in for 1/2 price. This encouraged quite a lot of support for the Club, and although not a lot was gained in admission, money was spent on the bar, food, programmes etc etc. Serveral players also came through the Youth club to represent the first team and reserves. During recent years senior club committee members, welfare officers, coaches of U18 teams have come from HBY to the Senior Club. I know to many this equates to HBY doing nothing for the senior club, but the Club must have felt that this was of benefit to them, as last season this scheme was extended to HBH as well.

I only posed the question whether it a good idea to charge younsters, after such a long time of free entry. The cost although many feel is insignificant, is also higher than clubs like Margate and Whitstable charge. I'll give you an example of a HBY coach that used to bring three of his younger team to home games, at what would have been last season an entry cost of £0. Now the club have moved up a level, he will now have to pay £14 to do the same. When you add in burgers, drinks, programme and a pint of beer, there probably won't be change out of £30.

This may well represent value for money and I'm not saying it doesn't, but the coach will have to make choices as I doubt whether he would pay extra £6 for the kids he brought along week in week out.

BazHBFC Lots of good points but i fear unless you have the ear of the club treasurer it will fall on stony ground. The other problem of course is the clubs AGM is usually left until a week before the season starts, when it is then to late to make changes to various positions that the club may have set up financially. I am sure there are discussions going on as we speak in relation to the posts on here and on the facebook site, but i am pretty certain what you see is what you will get, regardless of peoples points of view on the subject. You never know though eh!

  • Roquefort I was hoping to be elsewhere today so I have had to find something else to do with my time. Based on the wiki make-up of the Ryman South next year Bay fans will need to travel a total of 2,443 miles to attend all the away league matches at an average of 116.3 miles. By comparison in the Kent League Premier this season it would have been 1,365 miles at an average of 91 miles. Anyone still awake?

steveparsons George Corney the arena manager would'nt allow it!! lol

Roquefort 'Arena Manager' that's a bit like caling a cleaner a 'Domestic Technician'.
    May 15
BazHBFC I wouldn't let the bus stop stalker anywhere the cleaning fluid, as he would probably screw that up as well (if he could first get the lid off eh)

johnb If you watch the video of the games goals all long ball stuff. Glad I didn't go
    May 15
tricky Yes both goals punt from keeper, flick on and bang, even with defenders around two good finishes from their top scorer, especially the first with a nice controlled dink. Football at our level will need to be the long ball occasionally to relieve defensive pressure, balanced with skill, passing, short ball, vision and that little bit of luck that all teams get. End of the season however, the final league table and position just shows statistics of wins, draws, losses and goals for and against; it doesn't show the tactics or manner of how each result was produced. Bay finished top because we played the best variety and consistency of football over nine months and fully deserved our promotion, FA Vase run and silverware. And not forgetting the reserves either winning their league and the U18's having a good season. A progressive club needs strength in depth.

  • Roquefort Alternative awards of the season:

Videos of the season: A massive thanks to Tone for providing many minutes of entertainment. I doubt if there are many other non-league clubs that have so much action captured live.

Photographer of the season: Dan, Terry, Tony and all the others who caught the action. And Deery for those snow photos broadcast across Kent.

Forum of the season: Thanks to Baz for all the fun. He is passionate, he may be gobby at times, but his heart is in the right place. Keep it up mate.

Gentleman of the forum: BG. Bob is always polite and hits the nail on the head.

Website of the year: It may be basic, with no flashing lights, but after looking at many other Kent League and Ryman sites it is user friendly and simple for simpletons like me.

To the committee, managment and players...thanks for a remarkable season...bring on the Ryman.
